If the Transport Workers’ Union AKT goes on strike, it will affect waste management services provided by Lassila & Tikanoja in the whole country. The strike is supposed to begin on Tuesday 2.3.2010, if no agreement is reached in the negotiations for a collective agreement.
If the strike begins, an effort will be made to handle L&T services through temporary arrangements. L&T will primarily take care of the waste management for the following locations, which are critical to the functioning of society:
- hospitals and health centres
- airports, ports, public transport stations
- schools and day care centres
- stores and processing industry, where the slowing down of waste management would stop business.
Other locations will be attended to as far as is possible. However, it is presumed that waste transportation will slow down in the whole country.
During the strike waste containers for properties might become more filled up than usual. If the containers become full, L&T recommends that, for example, sorted metals, glass, cardboard and paper are primarily stored inside. Waste sacks that are stored outside should be protected from animals by carefully closing them. Loose waste should not be left at properties’ waste collection points.
