Proactive driving significantly reduces fuel consumption especially in heavy vehicle traffic. L&T’s heavy vehicle drivers regularly participate in proactive driver’s training sessions, which have significantly helped reduce fuel consumption. This year, some 400 L&T drivers will participate in a driving style training program.
”As compared to less careful driving, a vehicle piloted by a proactive driver may consume even 20 percent less fuel. Thanks to more clever driving, the driver also gets to enjoy a less pressing and stressful work day”, says Heikki Pakkanen, Development Manager in charge of driver training at L&T.
L&T is currently testing a system on its waste trucks, which, among other, measures the driver’s driving style and registers what part of the trip the vehicles is taxiing. A fuel-saving driving style will also increase safety, as the driver is focusing on improved traffic anticipation.
L&T ’s fleet in Finland comprises some 2,000 vehicles, 700 of which are heavy vehicles.
