L&T Biowatti Oy is starting up its pellet production in Luumäki located in the South Carelia region. L&T Biowatti and Umacon Oy have signed a cooperation agreement based on which the pellet production unit built by Umacon Oy will transfer into L&T Biowatti’s ownership.
Production in Luumäki will start in the course of this summer. To start with, the plant will provide an annual capacity of some 20 000 tons and employ 4-5 persons. Preparatory measures have been taken to increase the plant’s capacity in the future. The Luumäki unit and a further plant due to start up in Suonenjoki towards the end of the year will improve L&T Biowatti’s readiness to provide wood pellets mainly to the growing domestic market.
