L&T has introduced waste trucks using natural gas as fuel. Natural gas-powered waste trucks will significantly reduce emissions as compared to regular heavy traffic vehicles. In the start-up phase, L&T’s natural gas trucks will be used for waste management in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Emissions as well as operation of L&T’s natural gas trucks will be studied during the first year of use. Decisions with regard to increased use of natural gas vehicles will be based on these experiences.
L&T’s natural gas truck project is a part of the ClimBus research programme carried out by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, for the purpose of developing business solutions aimed at mitigating climatic change.
