Lassila & Tikanoja starts to process beverage cans and recyclable plastic bottles returned by the retail sector. Suomen Palautuspakkaus Ltd. has selected L&T to be one of two appointed processing companies in the whole country. Suomen Palautuspakkaus is in charge of the return system for beverage bottles and cans.
L&T will start processing recyclable beverage bottles and cans at the turn of the year. This is when the environment tax imposed on one-way bottles will be withdrawn and in this connection part of the plastic bottles in use will become recyclable deposit bottles. So far the non-deposit PET plastic bottles have mainly been ending up on landfills. After the turn of the year returned bottles will be processed to produce industrial raw material.
Recyclable plastic bottles and beverage cans coming in via the return system will be processed in L&T’s recycled materials production plants located in different parts of Finland and the material will then be delivered for reuse.
