L&T Biowatti is planning to build a wood pellet plant in Suonenjoki in the Pohjois-Savo region. In case a decision to implement the project is made, the plant will be located at Iisvesi. In the start-up phase the annual capacity would amount to 30 000 tons of wood pellets.

The plant would initially employ 5-6 persons. The main part of the cutter shaving used as raw material would be delivered by Finland Laminated Timber’s nearby plant producing glued laminated timber beams, and the remains would be obtained from the local wood processing industry.

The City of Suonenjoki participates in the implementation of the project. In their opinion, the wood pellet plant would further support the existing concentration of mechanical wood processing industry in Suonenjoki.

In case the market for wood pellets develops positively in the future, the plan can later be extended to include fresh sawdust as a raw material. This possible phase two investment would more than double the plant’s production capacity.

The final decisions with regard to implementation of the project are due to be made towards the end of 2007, and the plant could then be up and running at the end of 2008.
