Finland’s leading environmental services provider Lassila & Tikanoja, and Stena, the recycling services leader in the Nordic region, have announced their decision to cooperate in the field of metal and electronic waste recycling by arranging for joint collection and processing.

"Being able to jointly offer a comprehensive solution to the industry, we can meet customer requirements in many ways", say Jari Sarjo, L&T President and CEO, and Anders Jansson, Stena Metall Group CEO.

L&T has the most comprehensive environmental services network in Finland, catering for both local and national customer requirements in environmental services and recycling. In the past few years, Stena has taken important investments in Finland. Combined with an extensive geographical coverage built up, nation-wide metal recycling services can be offered. Put together L&T’s and Stena’s operative networks provide for a nation-wide coverage in terms of collection and recycling.

"From the client’s point of view, our cooperation will provide a superior nation-wide collection network", says Jari Sarjo. “By way of cooperation we can both improve the quality and coverage of our services and provide simple and reliable services to our clients. This cooperation also supports our intention to grow in Finland, which is a home market for Stena”, says Anders Jansson.

Among other things, L&T is taking care of the producer responsibility in the recycling of tyres, paper, packaging materials and plastics. Stena’s operations include recycling of wrecked cars. A producer responsibility involving collection and recycling electronic waste will become applicable in Finland in August 2005. Producers are manufacturers and importers. "By joint efforts of L&T and Stena, the WEEE producer community can be offered a nation-wide service network", says Jari Sarjo.

The cooperation between L&T and Stena is exclusively operative. L&T is in charge of collection, while Stena is handling the processing of metals to produce customer-specific recycled raw materials. "Our competences back up each other. There are no over-lapping areas. Our cooperation will also strengthen our efforts in research and product development, as well as in marketing and sales", Jari Sarjo and Anders Jansson conclude.
