L&T’s new recycling centre was inaugurated yesterday on 1 September in Oulu. The centre processes sorted waste from shops and supermarkets, industry and building sites, paper, board, plastic, wood and energy waste and discarded tyres as well as confidential material. Residential waste, biowaste and liquid waste are not accepted. The processed recyclable materials are delivered for reuse as raw materials to industry, as fuel or to earthworks. The total investment amounted to about EUR 10 million.
The new recycling centre increases the efficiency of L&T’s operations in the Oulu region by centralising the operations to one location. The scope of operations may be later expanded for instance by treatment of new types of waste. The maximum annual capacity of the centre as determined by the authorities is 100,000 tons of waste.
